The DFSE has a lot of history going for it back to its inception in 1951. This history is easily lost and never found again, or in the words of Bill and Ted "History is very historic!". Look here for such information, as well as photo archives of past and current events. The top logo on the left is to our knowledge the original logo of the DSEIU, the predecessor to the DFSE. The second logo is a redesign of the DSEIU logo, the best guess would be that this was done sometime in the 1980s. The third logo was designed in the early 1990s at about the same time that the DFSE, then the DSEIU ( Dearborn Schools Employees Independent Union) affiliated with the American Federation of Teachers/Michigan Federation of Teachers. The first logo on the second row was implemented in the 1990s and the modified 50th anniversary logo was designed by DFSE Graphic Technician Specialist Jan Piestrak for the 50th Anniversary of the DFSE. If you have any old pics of the DFSE or DSEIU and would like them added to this archive, please contact us.
At the time of it's original inception, (1995) the DFSE website was the first PSRP website in the United States. To our knowledge we were the first active website in the Dearborn Public Schools/HFCC district. We were internet when internet wasn't cool! Here is a link to a 1999 article on the AFT website regarding the emergence of PSRP (Paraprofessional and School Related Personnel) websites.
Historical subsections
July 27, 2007. Historical subsections started. Any information on line of presidents would be appreciated to help fill in the blanks. Also Forward's (union newsletter) from different era's will be archived.
July 25, 2007. We are making great progress in piecing together the history of this organization from 1951, although gaps still remain. We intend to have as complete listing of organization presidents as we can, along with representative scans of historical items from each era. You may be quite surprised at what we have uncovered already. A long term goal will be to put together the first complete as possible history of the DSEIU/DFSE from 1951 to present.
